To begin with, under the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic in 1968, some countries may recognize Ukrainian national driving licenses. 

However, in such a case, the national certificate must comply with applicable international requirements. And one of them is the availability of expiration information. If your driver's license does not meet the requirements, you can use the driver's license exchange service at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or, better, to apply for an international license immediately.

An international driver's license is issued on the basis of a national driver's license at the MIA's territorial service centers. For this service it is necessary to pay 8.16 UAH without the bank commission. Issuing (exchange) of an international driver's license is made without passing exams.

The validity of the international driver's license is 3 years, but not longer than the validity of the national driver's license.

To obtain (exchange) an international driver's license, you must contact the MIA's territorial service center with the following documents:

- the original driver's license (present to the administrator on the spot), as well as provide a copy thereof;

- passport of a citizen of Ukraine (in case of providing ID-card without information on registration of the place of residence in the contactless electronic carrier, a certificate of registration of the place of residence of the person is also provided);

- passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad;

- photo card 3,5x4,5 cm in size on matte paper;

- payment document (receipt), certifying the payment of the administrative service.

The national driver's license on the basis of which the international license was issued is not withdrawn. After verifying the documents submitted, the official of the MIC TOC immediately returns to the applicant the national driver's license, the passport of the citizen of Ukraine and the passport of the citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad.

At the same time, there are cases where they may refuse to provide the service. This is particularly the case in the case of:

- depriving a person of the right to drive a vehicle;

- the person is wanted;

- the driver's license is wanted;

- establishment of the fact of forgery of the national driver's license;

- expiry of the national driver's license on the date of receipt of the international;

- inconsistency of the applicant's personal data.

Please note that during the verification of the documents submitted by the persons it is found that the persons are deprived of the right to drive the vehicles, the national driver's license will not be returned by the officials, and will be sent to the MIC at the place of residence of the person for storage before the expiration of such deprivation. The relevant territorial body of the National Police will be informed.

And remember, without a national one, the international driver's license is not valid.
